Notification on Change in Test Methods

Please be informed that we have shifted our primary test methods of some test parameters as below : 

 

1. DIV 1 conventional PCR to DIV 1 Real-time PCR

2. TiLV Real Time PCR (EVAGREEN)* to TiLV Real Time PCR (Taqman)*

 

Note : *Tests not included in SAMM accredited testing scope

However, DIV 1 conventional PCR and TiLV Real Time PCR (EVAGREEN), methods can still be used upon the request of customer or whenever there is necessity.

Laboratory Verification for
Pre-export Testing

14 August 2020

Representatives from Department of Fishery (DOF) Malaysia, Ms. Eleanor Daniella, Dr. Roslina, and Ms. Sridevi Devadas, have audited our laboratory today to verify the incorporation of two new test methods in our ISO 17025 accreditation scope.

​

Our laboratory has been approved by DOF since 2018 to conduct pre-export testing for raw shrimps export. Pre-export analysis for aquatic animals is compulsory for administration of health certificate before the consignment can be released for export.

Muscle necrosis - A white, opaque discoloration in muscle tissue. Affected shrimps can be moribund (dying) and often associated with mortalities.

Decapod Iridescent Virus (DIV-1)

22 June 2020

Previously known as “Shrimp Hemocyte Virus (SHIV)” and  “Cherax quadricarinatus iridovirus (CQIV)”. DIV-1, a new threat to shrimp farming industry as this virus is highly virulent and causes mass mortality in 2-3 days upon first signs of infection.

First signs of infection:
1. Reddish shell

2. Soft shell

3. Shrimps sink to bottom of pond

Most affected species:
1. Pacific whiteleg shrimp (Litopenaeus vannamei)
2. Giant river prawns (Macrobrachium rosenbergii)

Extension of Scope (EOS) 

Assessment 

16 June 2020

We have successfully completed our EOS Assessment (and without any non-conformance)!!

​

EOS assessment covers : 

1) ISO documentation check 

2) Technical Assessment 

​

Two new test methods will be incorporated into our ISO 17025 scope once the panel from Department of Standards Malaysia (DSM) endorses the Technical Assessor findings.

Laboratory Resume Operation (30 March 2020 onwards)

We would like to inform that our laboratory will be operating as usual from 30 March 2020 (Mon) onwards. This is due to our services have been listed as essential to support your aquatic production during the movement restriction order.

 

We are able to receive your samples as usual and please arrange the delivery accordingly by:

1) sending us the consignment number if you are sending the samples via courier

2) wearing mask if you are sending samples via walk-in

 

However, please expect that your sample result may be delayed during the restriction period. Any further enquiry, kindly contact us for clarification.

Proficiency Testing 2019 (Aquaculture)

We are pleased to announce that our laboratory has successfully completed the Proficiency Testing program 2019 (Round 4) organized by the CSIRO Australian Animal Health Laboratory. We correctly detected all the crustacean pathogens including WSSV, IHHNV, TSV, YHV, IMNV, and AHPND/EMS. We are committed to continue providing our best service in molecular laboratory testing to our customers in the aquaculture industry. Thank you for your support.
